Note on test results - Norfolk and Southern and the Ohio EPA have undermined their credibility regarding the testing of this waste. They have misrepresented the dangers posed by the burning and subsequent transformation of the chemicals involved in the train wreck. The train was carrying vinyl chloride which, when burned, creates dioxins and furans; two very hazardous classes of chemicals. These new compounds pose serious toxic threats that could permanently poison aquifers and cause cancers and birth defects for generations if released into the environment. Our community is going to be compelled by the state and federal government to accept this waste. The regulations were written to include industry
friendly policies that have no regard for the risks they are imposing on
us. We are posting a link to a report by Huff Post that is an
indicator of how the waste was handled. If you don't look for dioxin you won't find it. We are not a dumping ground.
